Hi,

I'm new to the forum but have been reading the site for a couple of weeks and have found it quite motivational :)

My August challenge is -

#1 Stop drinking fizzy drinks (with the exception of whe use as a mixer with alcohol, which isn't that often anyway)
#2 Go to the gym at least once a week
#3 Start taking lunch to work with me rather than buying it from the shop

I'm guessing that everyone should probably post their goals in this thread since it's the first one in the section.

My challenge this month is to increase physical activity (ie execise) to increase aerobic activity. I have recently (27 days) quit smoking, and I am terribly out of shape. I'm also a member of the half century club so my exercise program will need to be tempered with the idea that I am not 25 any more either. Slow and steady progress day by day, but starting the activity to develop the habit. So I guess:
1. Daily regimen to increase endurance (start with a 15 minute period of exercise and increase as month progresses)
2. Shoot for an hour of daily exercise by the end of the month
3. Place the money I'm saving by not smoking into emergency fund

Use the internet for only one hour a day. Its not like I need it for work or anything .I'll not count watching films or tv through it as that would be tv time anyway which i want to reduce anyway . If I crack that any other goals should be easy .
Blown that already

I'm joining the challenge for the first time. My challenge is to get into the habit of waking up early. The goal for the end of the month is to wake up at 4:30 everyday. More details can be found in my blog post here

I'll be checking in one of the first things in the morning. I'm in the Netherlands, so at 4:30 it will probably be yesterday for most of you guys :)

:) Yay, fresh start!

My goal this month is to establish a morning routine and stick to it! Although for some of you early risers 6am probably isn't very early, it's a start. I tried for 5am in June and I think that was a little bit of a stretch :)

The planned routine is as follows:
- wake up (always a good start)
- shower, get changed, and so on
- check email, feeds, etc (if time permits - until 6.45/7am - have to figure this one out)
- work/whatever planned night before (usually school work)
- last minute stuff (pack lunch, put stuff I've been using away)
- go to school.

Simple, but I need to stick to it. So I guess I have two goals this month:

#1: Wake up at 6am every day for this month.
#2: Follow morning routine (or at least, get the work part done instead of getting stuck on email and feeds!)

Good luck everyone. :)

I'll get in on this month's challenge and commit to gaining 5 pounds (mostly muscle). I'll also be working towards shooting a 600+ series (200+ per game) in bowling.

I'm working on my diet and exercise with the help of another board, so I'll concentrate on my home here this month.

I'm trying to start using the Flylady system. My August goal will be to do my morning & evening routines every day, and to do all the "missions" she offers every week.

My August goal won't start until Friday, when I'm finally off the night shift. It will be to go to bed each night at 10 p.m. I'm not setting a wake-up time because I think I have a pretty significant sleep debt from working nights that I need to pay back. So I'm just going to go to bed early every night and hope that by the end of the month my body will settle into a reasonable routine that I can manage.
I'll also be keeping up my earlier challenge habit of exercising every day. Since this habit is pretty well established - I've been doing it pretty consistently for two months now - I think it's time to step it up a little. So I'm going to commit to exercising at least 30 minutes every day and adding a little strength and flexibility training to my cardio habit.
I hope you're all as excited about this month's challenge as I am - and I wish you the best of luck.

my cat just deleted a paragraph i wrote
my goals are walking 5 miles per day- i've been keeping this up though i need to find an alternative for the weekend and maybe take one day off or do something else for one day
write down my food daily and not eat past 8pm
pray
new goal- check in every day

overall i have been doing some of these every day but on no day this week (last 7 days) did i do all of them.
i know me and sloppy does not a good habit make.

previous goals that have now become habits are writing down everything i spend and eating breakfast

i got bored with the posting, i hope having it as a goal will help
good luck all! :)

My August Challenge would be to study and complete:

1. Pharmacology
2. Pathology
3. Microbiology
4. Forensic Medicine and Toxicology

Basically I will be finishing 2 subjects in the first 15 days. And the next 2 subjects before the end of August.

Thats my goal for this month.

#1: Eat out less: I eat out way too much, providing unhealthier and more expensive foods.
#2: Add strength-training or cardio to daily exercises alongside abs
#3 Wake up an hour earlier and follow the routine of exercise, shower, breakfst, then reading.
#4 Get in bed at 11:30PM, and de-compress by meditating or reading.

I was not successful in July and have no excuses. So I will start over for August and promise myself that I will follow through this time. My August Challenge:
1. exercise at least 30 minutes per day
2. lose 1lb a week (with an ultimate goal of 135 lbs.)

The exercise is more for improved health than for weight loss. I think more clearly and am far more optimistic if I exercise, particularly if I can do it early in the day every day. Last month I did establish a morning routine finally--which was not my planned goal. I get up at 6 each morning, stretch while my tea is brewing, write three pages, and do either ab work or lift weights. Then I go wake up the family and do the important mom things like make lunches, pack bags and find clothes. I have done this every day for 3 weeks, so I think it is almost a habit. I'm beginning to think I can't live without my morning hour.

This is my first challenge and I have two goals for August:

1.Wake up at least one hour earlier on weekdays (around 6 a.m) and follow my morning routine (writing, planning, reading). If I don't have time to do all three, I definitely want to do my writing everyday
2. My plan is to lose 10 kg until October so for this month my goal is to lose at least 4 kg. I won't follow any strict diets, just want to eat more healthy, move more and the most important one :eat only when I'm hungry
and of course
3. check-in every day

My challenge for August is a continuation from the July challenge

Goal 1 - Morning routine (this was going well in July except for the odd weekend morning but I want to keep this up)

Goal 2 - 20 minutes housework (this went quite well in July but didn't do well on decluttering so have decided to include them as on thing and will try to declutter as I go)

Goal 3 - Evening routine (This ones new and will include washing up, clean flask, write up to do list, check calender, clean teeth)

Welcome everyone to the August challenge!

Report progress of old challenges
[list:ccc3196077][*:ccc3196077]Do daily sport. My June challenge went really well with 29/30, but I stopped because of an injury. Now I want to get it going again. I will be kind to myself and start with a minimum of 30mins a day.
[*:ccc3196077]Read in a book everyday. (30 mins) 31/31 in July - I just had to take the time for it. I want to consolidate this new habit.
[/list:u:ccc3196077]Together with the June challenge I changed my wakeup-time. This month I probably will shift from 6AM to 5.45AM on weekdays, but I don't think I will need to report this since it never was a problem for me. :)

New challenge
[list:ccc3196077][*:ccc3196077]Work towards the plan of part-time-freelancing (2hrs/day). I will be going on holiday August 23rd, but before I want to do something for my future. As it is semester break now, I should find 2 hours a day to accomplish this![/list:u:ccc3196077]

Goal - to watch tv for less than an hour every day, this is crucial hence will start off with an hour worth of tv and gradually reduce it to 30 mins and then around the 20 th to no TV.
I also hope to continue my good work from june and july challenges i.e. meditating everyday, reading everyday and 3 times or even less of emails

it is a fresh start - good luck to my fellow challengers

OK, I've been trying to decide what my goal for August will be.

I've decided: it will be to refine and strengthen my morning and evening routines, which have not been as strong during summer as the kids haven't been going to school. :)

I'll post more about this tomorrow.

I will also continue my July Challenge of daily exercise, which will be a part of the routines.
