Global Warming

Global warming is caused by emissions of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping gases that are emitted primarily by the burning of fossil fuels and the clearing of forests. These gases remain in our atmosphere for decades or even centuries.

Gases including carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, methane and water vapour trap heat from the sun within the atmosphere. Acting like the panes of glass in a greenhouse,they ensure that temperatures close to the Earth's surface are much warmer than they would otherwise be.
