I'm not sure I understand the logic behind locking that thread. I understand that it's getting later in the month, but if somebody wants to join late, who is to say that we should stop them? It seems exclusionary just for the sake of being exclusionary. If nobody else has a problem then I'll shut up, because it's honestly not a big deal.
