First off let me go ahead and introduce myself, my name is Andy, I live down in Florida and I'm a student.
Now on to business. :P
I've recently been wanting to redo my room, but I'm also in the interest of keeping my spending to a minimum. I want to replace all the furniture in my room, starting with my desk, but I'm not sure where to go. Should I buy locally/retail or would I have better chances shopping online for decent, attractive furniture? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hello Andy.
When I was a student I also tried to keep the money spending to a minimum. So I think you might buy only what you need and don't buy new furniture.
You see, furniture (like cars) loses value fast once it gets out of the store. I might be wise to get the local newspaper for the classifieds and see if there's something you can buy for cheap.
If you want a nice couch, odds are you'll find it there.
About decoration, I would use plain white walls to contrast the furniture color. Lots of space and air is what I would do.
Hope you find good deals!

Andres if you happen to be any good with DIY (or would like to learn), consider looking in secondhand and junk stores for 'old' furniture that has restoration potential. Furniture today isn't made to the same level of quality as it was in the past, so a well restored antique desk or cupboard may well serve you far longer than a new store bought one would-and you get to restore it to your tastes :)

[color=darkblue:d55750228e][/color:d55750228e]You should checkout www.craigslist.org and see if there is a listing for your area where you live. There is usually a ton of stuff that people are selling that are relatively fairly priced. I've bought and sold quite a few things on this site here in Dallas.
If not then I would suggest garage/estate sales, thrift stores, goodwill, second hand stores and even pawn shops. You know what they say, "One man's trash is another man's treasure!" :D
