Does anyone have any tips for creating a healthy one?
I feel as though I have friends of course, but my effort to
hang out with them isn't there. Many are far or don't spark my
interest enough. So I spend a lot of time alone as a result.

Leo had a good post on friendships recently-I think it may have been a guest post.
From my side:
-It's ok to have friends you don't see or speak to often, if that's the relationship that works for you.
-You shouldn't feel like spending time with your friends is an obligation. It's healthy to be social, but your friends should be people you want to spend time with, maybe it's time to extend your circle of friends by joining a club or something and meeting people that share your interests?

I know this won't address the core of the problem (how to develop relationships), but here's a nice (kinda) quick fix:
Get a hobby. A social one. My suggestion? Dancing, particularly swing dancing. (I know, I'm sold, but hey.. it works!)
Seriously, lots of guys and girls get into swing dancing specifically to meet people of the other sex, and then just fall in love with the dance itself... and that's when their social skills start improving. I personally have lots of friends who used to be very socially inept, and can now handle a crowd quite well.
I think it has to do with the physical closeness - if you want to partner dance, you'll have to get over your fear of talking to people: you'll be touching them! But at the same time, swing isn't as sexy and intimate as salsa or tango (which I also really like, btw). It's just a really fun, relaxed, and laid-back dance, and people can either chill to smooth songs or go wild to fast and crazy stuff, and it's always fun. You don't have the awkwardness of a "seduction" dance.
And man, is it a great group of people! A huge variety of people, with a wide range of interests. I've been dancing for years, and I now have good friends all over North America, and some of my best friends are from the swing scene.
Anyway, I always get excited when I talk about swing, so I'll stop here, but I can't recommend it enough. PM me if you want to know more, I can probably direct you to a website or school in your area... :D
In any case, good luck!
