From a previous post by Our Leader:

What new habit will you form this month? Use the power of the group to motivate you to success!

Remember:

1. One habit at a time is best.
2. Small goals are more successful in these challenges — don't bite off too much at once.
3. If you post every day to this forum, you'll be more successful — more accountability = better motivation.

Good luck everyone!

Here's my edited-down version of Mike's handy bookmarklet:

[code:1:e38d370f8b]javascript:(function(){document.getElementsByName('message')[0].value='(PUT HABIT GOAL HERE): ';})()[/code:1:e38d370f8b]

And here's a version for those with two goals:

[code:1:e38d370f8b]javascript:(function(){document.getElementsByName('message')[0].value='(PUT HABIT GOAL HERE): \\n(PUT SECOND HABIT GOAL HERE): ';})()[/code:1:e38d370f8b]

The outputs look like this:

[code:1:e38d370f8b](PUT HABIT GOAL HERE):
(PUT SECOND HABIT GOAL HERE):[/code:1:e38d370f8b]

Let the habit-creating begin! Time for the first and by far easiest step commence: Choose a habit to develop!

Hi all,
I've been away from these forums for a few months - life just got a little too crazy and I felt like the best I could do was just try to keep all the new habits I'd made here going. But now things have settled down and I'm back. Hope you've all been doing well.
This month my challenge is going to be to cut dairy out of my diet except for one treat day each weekend. I realized that since I'm mostly vegetarian, dairy is the biggest source of fat and calories in my diet - so if I'm going to lose these extra pounds, it's gotta go. Plus, I think it will help with another goal to cut my caffeine intake since I really can't stand black coffee. I think this is doable because I don't consume a great deal of dairy day to day - but it is what I turn to when I get the munchies.
I wish you all success this month.

==========================

May Challenges

1. Swallow two work frogs (15 min. each) before taking a break.
2. Evening routine.
3. Get out of bed by 7:00 AM. Be ready by 8:00 AM.

Mini-goal

A. Sleep no later than 11 pm. No 'catching up' on hw.

Getting rid of goal#2 for June. I think I have a pretty good handle on it now.

I'm going to condense my goals for the first one as it seems that making myself following a specific method for coming to class on time isn't a great idea.

Alright, the new ones are:

1.) Be on time for morning class.
2.) Swallow three work frogs (15 min. each) a day.

For this month I'm going to want to continue waking up before 0800, and at the same time I want to get at least 20 minutes of exercise in 3-4 times a week. Since I just got found a stray puppy yesterday this should be relatively easy with walking him...

May: Wake up before 0800. 12/21 I did better last month but this was a lot harder.

For all the habits I attempted to break, waking up on time (or doing anything on time for that matter) is by far the most difficult.

I'm going to carry over a couple of the ones from May just to make sure I stay on top of things (some of them are modified a bit though because they were too extreme).

1) Mon-Fri, up at 7:45, out the door at 8:35 to ensure that I get to school by 9:30
2) Limit recreational internet use to 1 hour a day, everyday. No AIM.
3) Yoga for at least 20 min/day or 20 min/day of cardio
4) Since I have a bike trip to Togo & Benin this December, I really need to get better with saving up for it.
Yeah, this is a vague goal, but I guess putting away for 1/5 of the plane ticket and sundry expenses per
month for the next 5 months is a good plan.
5) No beverages with artificial sweetener in them (I swear aspartame, etc. are messing with my memory)
6) Only 1 cup of coffee per day
7) One thesis-related academic journal article must be read per day.

I think that's it.

Good luck everyone!

Know what? Yoga. I'm doing it, no excuses. This will involve cleaning my room first because it's currently too much of a disaster to put a mat in. Soo I might end up doing yoga downstairs for a while.

I have been watching this great blog for some time, but discovered the forum only last week. I'm very happy I found this place where I should for sure find some good extra motivation. So here are my 2 challenges for June:
1/ Eat "healthy" 5 days per week
2/ Run 2 x 45 minutes every week

Good luck to all others

Control my procrastination. This habit is so close to destroying my life and dreams that I really can't let myself be like this anymore.

I've started a (god I hate the buzzword)blog, and I will write my daily success or failure of my first challenge of a month in there http://phantom-bug.blogspot.com/, and I'll scribble a short briefing of the daily post in here forums(as in, failure/coming along/got something finished!)

A huge thank you for Leo and all the others who have achieved some of their dreams. You've given me hope(and lots of information) and I'll be joining you in 5 years, so wish me luck.

This month I'm going to work on my blog a half hour each day. I would eventually like to turn it into a source of income for me (even a small one), and so I know I need to dedicate significantly more effort to this.

Activities which qualify for this half hour are writing posts, replying to comments/emails, submitting articles to festivals/carnivals, tweaking the site design, installing plug-ins, etc -- anything that goes towards the goal of making the blog insanely useful, basically.

I'm going to reward myself:

- after the first three days with a trip to the library
- after week 1, 2, and 3 with a book from my Amazon wishlist
- at the end of the month with a sample pack from Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs

This is going to be terribly hard, but I am going to limit my personal internet to an hour a day. I'm for nine hours a day at work, so I >really< don't need to fiddle around online for two or three hours at home, too. I'm not looking forward to this. I'm a compulsive email checker. But I think that the internet has really cut into my time for crucial activities: reading, writing, yoga, and prayer. So, here goes....

Good luck to all,

MfC

I am promising to expend 1 hour on accounts and finance every day.

I need to do this for practical reasons and to establish a regular habit.

This is the third month I will have been working on this one.

Ok I am new here and I am from South East Asia. Time here now is 8.30pm, June1.

Just landed on this site, read about 2-3 articles and successfully found the the new year article for 2008. Yes it is very late. only 7 months left and another year will pass, but its not too late to make a change. Create a nice new habit... or change a habit.

Successful people are defined by successful habits.

But for a starter, my challenge for June will be a little simple:
1. When dealing with office/work chores, do it there... and only there. There's a place for everything and when its office time, it is office time. If its over, it is over. There's a lot of other things to catch up on other than work. Friends, family, gf, sports, etc. Life is not all about work and money.

I just happen to work with someone and we basically buy and sell stuffs. Import-Export about everything we can find as a bargain, etc. and I have a tendency to ALWAYS think about my job, check on clients always, talk to them everywhere via WiFi, replying to e-mails urgently and am always checking updates on shipping, customs, replies, etc. and WORST part is I even take it at home, think about it while my eyes are closed trying to sleep which makes me loose sleep most of the times. Miss some events, gatherings, etc. as I rather choose to "work" on Sundays, holidays, every day which I think is not worth it but is "used" to it so what the heck. Thou, I really want to change this. I am 22yrs old and I feel that I should balance things out before I miss out on my youth and with everyone else around me.

And I believe if I am successful in this, I can live on the moment as they say...

2. Read all the articles here at Zen Habits. Well I know not all articles here will fit me or some in able to fit me, I need to customize it a little bit. But I really want to catch up.. Know more, Improve myself, be an alpha male, etc. haha. So I plan to read ATLEAST one article here everyday and internalize it.

1) Yoga, at least 3 times a week
2) Hike in the Sierras, 3 times a week
3) 30 minutes a day organizing and de-cluttering the house
4) At least 15 minutes of writing a day
5) Write down what food I eat

Goal for this month is, by the time I go to bed each night, to have on the kitchen counter to the right of the sink no more than the following items: jar of utensils, compost container, soap dispenser. Samples of counter materials are also OK. I am planning to replace the countertop, but that won't really do me any good unless I can SEE the darned thing. By way of perspective, what it had on it this afternoon before I cleaned it off was:
jar of utensils, soap dispenser, bottle of ammonia, tea bag holder, tongue depresser type thing used for stirring shellac, 2 lids from yogurt containers, empty goat cheese container, 6 beverage bottles (recent road trip), quart jar with small amount of saline solution in it, mostly empty jar of Citrucel, mostly empty can of shellac, 5 plastic bags, 2 wine corks, 1 rubber glove, jar of hand lotion, empty food container, toaster, cap from water bottle, one of those useless little square things for holding bread bags shut, state park camping permit from three weeks ago, foot off box fan, ear/nose bulb syringe, and the compost container (old yogurt container). And a cutting board with two yellow squash, an onion, and a knife.
