What makes a good Doctor?

A good doctor listens to you, respects your knowledge, health research that you have done and is open to discuss all options in addressing your health issues in the most comprehensive and rational manner.

Some of the desirable qualities of a doctor that is humane should be http://rationalmd.com/about/

Most of the times, a patient is treated like a number and doctor behaves as an omnipotent know all. There is a definitive need for a constructive dialog between the patient and doctor in a need to better understand each other. If the public is educated enough about various issues involved and do their proper research, then the dialog can happen at an intellectual level taking the barriers and gaining them the needed respect from the doctors.

There is also an immediate need to give due recognition to various fields of knowledge such as alternative, integrative, wholistic, nutritional sciences. There is a need to shed the dogma about other fields by the orthodox medical establishment.

What has been your experience? Do you get the proper respect that you deserve from your doctor?
