Also, I just wanted to make it clear that I'm immensely amused that you took my suggestion seriously and made this thread. That's cute.

Well, the thing about water pipes, both hookahs and... the other ones, is that they cool the smoke as it bubbles through the water. With a hookah filled with shisha (specially-treated, usually flavored tobacco) you can blow much more impressive smoke rings than with any other tobacco smoking device. With the other sorts of water pipe - bubblers count too, and you can actually say 'bubbler' in any hea... um, smoke shop I've ever been in - you can hold more of your legal herb of choice in your lungs for longer. Ergo, more herbal goodness! Totally above board, I swear.

Okay, even I think I went a little over the top with the doublespeak there. But that's the gist of it.

Ozzy, wait, you mean legal in the US? Because those sound like great fun, and I need to stay legal (what with the whole 'getting a job' thing). I mean, you had me at 'blow better smoke rings'.

Well, the "legal herbs" thing was just me taking the "don't say the b word" joke too far on purpose... but there is one example I can think of. Salvia divinorum is still apparently legal in most US states, although the high it gives you is markedly different from weed and (at least for me) has never lasted very long. I have a couple of friends who love the stuff, though.

As long as it doesn't show up in a urine test, sounds like something I can check out.

I loved the day I told my mom that her salvia in the garden is probably a hallucinogen. I wonder what it's like compared to other things (having tried none of the above myself)...

I don't think it shows up on urine tests... it might be that it's possible to test for it, but no one bothers to. I wouldn't take my word for it, though.
